She's mine

I pulled the trigger today on a 1979 Watkins 27. Another old Marine vet bought it two years ago as a project (he lives aboard his 30' Tartan) and, at 82 y/o, has decided he's getting too old for sailboats and is swallowing the hook.

He's already done much of the tedious and expensive work. She has a fresh $3k bottom paint job, a 12HP Yanmar, mast steps, tiller steering (most of these were equipped with Edson wheels), and some nicely done interior woodwork.

She will henceforth be known as 'Usquebaugh', a Gaelic term which translates literally as 'Water of Life' but more commonly as 'Whiskey'

She lies in a fresh water lake an hours drive from me. I'll keep her there while I work on her and, around October, have her trucked to the gulf coast.

Congratulations! She looks very nice! These are tough little boats.

Fair winds and following seas.

She looks great! That heads compartment is huge (in a good way)...

Congrats!!

Looks like she's been modified a little over the years.. And thats quite a holding tank installation you have there, originally the tank was under the port setee, it worked well there too, guess the tank wasn't big enough for somebody along the way. I have owned two of these Watkins 27's over the years and now have a Watkins 29, they are great boats, pretty well put together too. There is a very good Watkins owners group on Yahoo that is very active, they will gladly answer any questions you may have. Good luck with the renovation.

A day on a boat is better than a day in the office! Enjoy your sailings! T's gonna be one great sailing summer pretty soon.

Congrats!
