Seaworthy Pocket Cruiser - Advice ?

There's a project boat setting on the dock in front of my boat, its a ChoyLee offshore 31 that he's asking 2K for... probably take a hundred hours or so to bring it back to life and maybe another 5k in funds..
If your looking for a full keel, slow boat, could be a real deal...........

If you can find a Vancouver 27 I think this would suffice. My V27 circumnavigated 1990 to 1993 single handed. Caught in a bad storm two other bigger boats were dismasted Cacique was fine. Make sure you get a windvane for ocean crossings.

My biggest complaint about pocket-cruisers is the lack of an enclosed head in most.

Saw that but wonder how many of the boats are still really for sale. 800+ days on the market? I think it all boils down to 1 boat available in the US.

My Lindenberg 26 has a large enclosed head on centerline identical to the Vancouver 27,a big advantage of foregoing the vee berth.

Hard to find, they only made 26, but a Kaiser26 is a great pocket cruiser. I had hull #24. Solid construction, full keel, 6' headroom, classic lines. Single-handed mine from FL to Rio Dulce and back.

Yes, you are right - I have not sailed a Flicka round the world. I have sailed an Allegro 27. (26', 3000 kg, light).

Yes, I consider a 18' LWL boat very small for a safe circumnavigation. Yes - I consider a 18' LWL, 5500 boat a pig.

Yes, I know something about the Flicka. Flicka means a little girl in Swedish, Sweden is where my own boat comes from. She (Flicka) has 31% ballast ratio, which I consider low for ocean crossing purposes in this size range.

Please do not jump to conclusions. Please speak from your experience.

"Several have circumnavigated". Possibly so. PLS direct the guy who posted the original question to some of the several circumnavigation records - so that they can get some understanding of the level of comfort / safety they will experience.

Enough said, I have sailed a 26 footer (3000 kg = 6600 lbs) with 26 LWL and consider such a craft only marginally acceptable for a circumnavigation on the easiest of the routes (given my sailing experience and my share of good luck).

If you disagree, prob noblem. Just please provide some hard data to make your point. Saying "several have circumnavigated" is like saying "anybody can do it". Simply, not the case.

"Several have circumnavigated" in open boats, too. I wouldn't want to but I say let anyone be as stupid as they want to be as long as they don't take an EPIRB with them. Seriously, if you're going to do something inherently stupid don't expect someone else to risk THEIR lives to rescue yours?
