Santana 30/30 Sailboat

I am considering buying a nice used Santana 30/30 WD Schock sailboat selling for 10k to use for coastal cruising in San Diego, California and Mexico. Is this a good boat? What should I look for in the survey and is 10k a fair price? What other cruiser 30' boats should I consider in used price range under 30k that are not super expensive to own and maintain? I plan to use it for just me and a friend so don't need a bigger expensive boat.

Re: Santana 30/30 Sailboat

What year? What condition? If everything is in ready-to-sail condition, especially engine, rig, and sails, decks have no water intrusion, decent interior, I would think something under $10K. I think a 30/30 is really more of a racer/cruiser, and very likely it has been raced hard. I don't know if it has a cored hull, if so it needs to be surveyed *very* carefully. I think I would like a boat like that because I like to race, and I like a performance boat. But if all you're interested in is cruising, maybe you want something more like a Catalina 30. On the west coast, there must be about a zillion of them, in a complete range of age, condition, and price. Seems like you could find a decent one for $10K.

Boat is 1979 I believe and took it for test sail today in San Diego bay. Everything works well and boat has a fairly new brass prop and sails in good condition. Easy to handle single hand as well and will do survey on it.
