Caliber impressions: good cruising boats, not great, but better than most production boats...

Calibers... interesting designs, traditional styling and build (I do not believe the hulls are cored) but I recall hearing once that they don't sail as well as you would expect.

They are built in Florida.... small, family type outfit. I think the family name is McCreary? I called them once and actually had a brief conversation with the designer/head guy who very graciously answered my questions.

I like the 33/35 a lot. The 38/40 to me is OK but I think the two heads below is unnecessary and somewhat of a waste of space.

Caliber is a refreshing attempt to be a real cruising boat, instead of a floating condo or the so-called racer/cruiser or all three at once. One can always quibble about this and that, but Calibers are real cruising boats. The design focuses on, for example, tankage and storage.

People who have them tend to like them, best as I can tell.

I would like to see Caliber go up against something like an Island Packet. Upwind, I'm pretty sure Caliber would handily win.
