Any full keeled boat can safely careen on sand.

It might also be possible to lean against a pier or seawall. Plenty of peope do it that way. If you choose to do that you are on your own with hull scrapes and scratches but it can certainly be done.

By the way, in my book "careen" means once or twice a year for cleaning and painting not twice a day when the tide goes out.

Leaning it up against posts or a wall or some other structure is better than laying it on a sand bank imo. You'll need to be alert to the conditions to do the latter and, as savoir says, don't think of it as usual practice.

I don't know about environmental laws over there but we can no longer careen to scrape and antifoul - that must be done when slipped (or 'hauled' as is said elsewhere) and the waste captured and properly disposed of. So I'd advise checking before you try it.

Fortunately for me, as a devout fin keel guy, the situation will never arise.

Even so, I reckon you could safely careen any fin keeled boat that doesn't have a torpedo bulb, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.
