I don't quite understand the model year thing. Listing says 2001, but then it also says built during the 70's fuel crisis. 40-45-ish years old?


Not a particularly expansive interior? Berth layout unpopular?

Yeah exactly year isn't clear. I saw the berth thing too. I hate the bunk beds. Small hours. I wonder if the ngins seized. I wonder about a lot of things. Too good a dream for a DD @ $

Berths could maybe be modified.

I think engine hours were in the high 1800s... didn't seem off-putting...

I'd have thought interior "furniture" would still be wooden joinery? "Double berths" not too hard to replace with a single larger berth? Didn't look closely at the listing, and I've not seen the inside of a DD...

Hard to tell that cabin. You'd have to check and see. Would be nice to put in a Pulman or something and make it a real guest qtr. Must be needing lots of replacements -- hoses, wiring etc. who knows.

The Diesel Duck was designed only in 1994, so that boat cannot have been made in the '70's.

2001 would be the right build year.

That boat is one of the worst presented boats for sale I have ever seen, and I would bet that this is why it's been unsold on the market for such a long time. The price has been dropped from the mid-200's. Could be a great bargain for someone if it's basically sound (need a good survey). Needs a complete cosmetic makeover, new electronics, etc.

I love these boats. Narrow beam, easily driven hull, modest windage -- very different from most other power yachts of this size. I think they carry a lot of ballast in the deep (for a power boat) keel, so might be more stable than you would expect.

I am skeptical about the sailing rig, but I don't have any specific knowledge about how well they work. Notice that the sailing rig on the boat for sale has never been used!

Are you referencing the Diesel duck? Seems pretty economical as just a trawler at 5-6mpg with 1500+gal tankage. Some "sailors " so little better than that average.

Our 54ft non-duck manages 6-6.5 knots in calm seas averaging just one gallon of diesel per hour. That's 7mpg.

Like I wrote, motorsailers stink at both.

The sail on the Diesel Duck is not meant as a primary propulsion. It uses are a are to provide stabilization when under way, add a little efficiency to the engine under way, and as a "get home" device should the engine fail.
