S-2 11m Center Cockpit ?

Does anyone out there have any experience or opinion about the center cockpit 36' S-2 sailboat. I have sailed on one many years ago and really enjoyed it, but I am considering liveaboard and want a good boat for coastal cruising and liveaboard accomodations. Does not need to be blue water as Bahamas probably only off shore sailing to be done. Does need to be single-handed capable. Thanks for any feedback. john

Great liveaboard . Better than average construction . Practical sailor did a review a few years ago on the 11. A lot of boat for the money

Thank You

Maggie K, Thanks much for the feedback. I am leaning that way. Do u think it can be rigged for single-handling?

I think that they may have a lot of volume; but, they have a lot more windage that comes with that, they are pretty heavy and slow, and you can make your own judgement as to their appearance.

In my opinion, the challenge with a mid cockpit boat in that length is that they really too difficult to overcome unless you do a micro mid cockpit.

With the prices of used boats being generally depressed, you can get other options for not a lot more. What other boats are you considering? Why the mid cockpit?

What and where are you planning on generally using boat? How many crew and passengers? etc., etc.

Actually they sail pretty nicely, not J boats but not slugs either they can hold their own with the modern Hunterbentalina crowd. Everyone has their own needs and views on the ideal boat. The S2 36C has the usable space of most 40+ footers because of an intelligent design and layout below not high free board. For a live aboard this means a lot. Any boat can be rigged for single handing , I have a friend with small Barque he runs single hand.
The S2 would be pretty easy to set up for single handing . Not a problem
