Retroussé stern? (sugar scoop transoms)

What year(s) did the "sugar scoop" transoms become the norm for popular monohulls? Like Hunter, Catalina, Pearson, etc? I believe it was in the mid-to-late 1980's, but need more specific dates.
We're looking for a used sailboat, but do not want one without that easy-to-board stern. Anyone out there know?
