I am looking to replace my old Perkins 4-107 engine in mt 42 foot sail boat. A Robert Clark design custom steel sloop at 11 tonne displacement.The engine i am looking at is a Beta 43 or the Beta 45 turbo.Oddly enough the turbo is cheaper than the naturally aspirated model.So my question is does any one have a 45T and how do you like it and how does it stack up against the 43. The 45T is smaller displacement 1498 cc 2800 RPM as compared to the 43 1999 cc. 3000 RPM. All i want to know is how do you like or dislike the 45T. All input will be taken in consideration to my final choice.

I replaced my 4-108 with a Beta 43 and has been running fine with 2500hrs and normal maintenance. Highly recommend it.

I'm not a fan of turbos unless the weight saving, about 50Kg in this case, is the critical factor. I doubt that's the case in your steel sloop.

Take a look at the Beta 50, about the same size as the 43.

thanks the weight as you say is not a issue. my concern it the turbo reliability in a boat something else to go wrong.

It looks like the 45T (not listed on the US Beta site but is on the UK site) is a Beta 35with a Turbo. The 1498CC and the RPM match the beta 35 The Beta 38 is same engine block as Beta 35 but has higher (3600rpm) . Are you getting this engine from Beta US?

The engine is coming from a dealer in BC Canada. i am trying to establish weather the turbo model is as reliable as the non turbo model in my application.
