2.71 is outside the width allowed and is classified as a wide load. This is the job for a professional boat haulage company, as police permission is required and " convoy exceptional" rules will need to be followed.

No the absolute max width allowed is 2.55m ( I know thia as I towed in France in the last 2 years). Over 2.55m you are not allowed to use the Autoroutes and you must follow convoy exceptionel rules with police permission ( and in some cases police convoy).

Re: Rent a Trailer in the South of France

Hi,

Here are 3 main specialized companies in boat transport in France:

Multitrans: www.multitrans.fr

Augizeau: email: augizeau@altead.com

Peters and may: france@petersandmay.com

Some tricks to know fro the transport:

Not being in a hurry offer great price reduction possibilities:

If you leave the transporter the choice for the dates, they should offer you down pricing as they will be able to work at low season period or use a return trip where the trailer is normally empty to optimize their schedule, sometimes they put several boats on the trailer as well (instead of doing several trips...), would worth being flexible a bit.

Another thing to know: use well renown and long established companies as the transport is unusual and can present some risks to the boat.

We have been recently aware of a misfortune during transport of a boat from Spain to France, the boat first "disappeared" for some weeks...and then appeared with the deck completely "flushed" after trynig to go under a bridge that was obviously...too low.

The boat was a "neo-classic" type of around 50 feet long and you can imagine what happend to its nicely varnished rooves, they have been ripped off...nobody could explain what happend from the transport company...a nightmare for the owner.
