Rasmus 35 buying advice.

Hello everybody. Im looking at purchasing a Hallberg-Rassy Rasmus 35 Swedish Snowbird. The boat has been for sale for awhile. Just wondering if anybody has any advice on the boat or know anything about this boat. here is the link to the boat. thanks everybody for looking!

No. It probably has a place somewhere, maybe a lake. It's lay-up is like a cheap speed boat, chopper gun. Heavy and weak.

I sailed across the Pacific on one. We liked it, strong and predictable, but not ridiculously slow. We had the ketch version, which we liked for offshore. We averaged 100-150 miles a day if I remember right, and had a couple of days in the 180 mile range. I would take one just about anywhere if the size works for you.

Looks like a very well-equipped boat for little money. If you buy it, have the gas installation professionally checked..

In a 35 foot cruising boat, averaging 100 mpd is pretty lame. 150 mpd is unbelievably fast.

The Rasmus is a great boat (sailed on one with a friend once), can't give you any pointers beyond the obvious with all boats (never owned a Rasmus) but do wish you luck in your purchase of one.

Really a full keel motor sailer, big engine and big fuel tanks under the cockpit.

Surprisingly small below, the aft cabin is really child size, and the forward cabin would be small for a thirty footer.

I would price new sails and standing rigging and add to budget. Standing rigging is 14 or 15 years old and no mention of age or condition of sails unless I missed it.

In Europe the HR's are famous well known boats. But everyone can ruine a boat!
She won't be a fast sailor and even not tacking as a modern sv. But a good seagoing one. The two masts will give you a lot to do while sailing, but easy handling.
When you have this boat checked as to be good. Buy it!

From a surveyors point of view if it is anything like the photos it looks pretty good. Certainly the Yanmar is a good motor, replacing the rigging might be pricey and make sure the gas system is compliant. Lets hope that forward berth is a good size double as that compression post in the middle of the aft bed would piss me off when trying to sleep. Make sure to check the deck around the chainplates. All said the Halberg Rassey has a good name.

A Swedish friend of ours had one. Later the same friend had a HR46. He said only good things about Rasmus.

Sure thing: an older boat so make sure there are as few age related issues as you can get.
