Mine is on a post at the stern. OK the range is compromised at 9 miles or so, but that is the only problem. The advantages are:
Reduced weight aloft.
Won't get battered by
sails, a friend managed to tear his
radar off the mast with the
genoa.
When the drive belt broke on my radar it was a simple step ladder job.
My
AIS antenna is mounted on the same mast.
Useful place to wear the ensign.
Should I have to replace my radar, I will consider fitting an open array scanner, which are considered superior to the radome sort.
