Re: Questions About a Prairie 32

The 1 I am after is also in Beaufort. Has been on the hard for a few years. Needs bottom paint and new subfloors. Otherwise, in pretty decent shape.

I've been doing some work on the interior. I attached some pictures of the interior before and after I did some work to the port side bench seat and storage areas as well as a picture of the sail locker (v-berth).

The sail locker is not big enough for a bed unless you remove one of the storage closets in the head area. I've thought of doing this but on the other hand it is nice to have a sail locker...

The pictures with the garbage everywhere are the pictures I took when I first received the boat. Recently, I've been doing work to the interior. There used to be a cooler or something built into the port side saloon berth. This was removed leaving a gaping hole in the interior seating. The last two pictures are the work I've done on the area so far. The storage areas were also stripped, sanded, and painted with Glidden Porch and Floor Oil Polyurethane. I've heard it's good for this application. We'll see...

Should be securing hull 27 today. Needs a ton of interior work. Charging camera to take lots of before and after pics.

Re: Questions About a Prairie 32

Thanks for the pictures mag395. you appear to know what you're doing! i'll look up that paint, as it really looks good. i don't seem to have lockers in the v-berth and the center line to the opening for the head is around 6', maybe a little more. we're 5' 10 and 5'4" so we might try to see if we can both get in there for sleeping.

after many periods of floundering, i've broken through the doldrums and have started to tackle one task at a time. there is so much ahead, i'd let it get the best of me and accomplished nothing. finally a break-through. 2 golf cart 6v & 1 -12v batteries go in on the next trip.....and then possibly exhaust hose and muffler installation to the engine and maybe the raw water filter. after that, the fuel tank will need secured.
maybe i'll do some pictures and post as progress is made.

Re: Questions About a Prairie 32

Hi Folks, Back on again. I do have loads of info on the Prairie and have talked with Mr Hawn at length about the P32. I ahve orig line drawings" blue prints" and a bunch of other info including Mr Perry"s Eval which actually was done for the previous owners of my own P32. Pm me if you like. I do not like to get involved directly on this site for various reasons, Anyone serious about obtaining the info I have send me you contact info and I will make copies of everything and mail or fax it to you. It is very interesting and nice to have on board for friends to read.I also have an origional brass belt buckle that has the Prairie logo on it that was given to evach new owner.
Also to the person that was dissing the name.....get a life, who cares what you think.

they do have some weather helm but that can be overcome with proper sail trim and a well ballanced rudder, ie: a dry one!! In heavy seas they tend to hobby horse a bit so one has to work to slide down off steep seas sideways. the aft deck area can become quite wet due to the amt of water taken over the bow. taht being said the boat is very boyant and it is impressive how much water one can take on deck and still bob like a cork. I have been in hurricain force winds with very heavy seas off the coast of canada, washington and or and never once felt I was unsafe.
I know this boat well and have lots of info if you like,
Hi i believe I purchased the boat Bill was eyeing.Hull 27 in bueafort, sorry Bill. Lots of interior work has been done .New bottom paint, cabin sole,head,range,Yanmar3gm30, interior paint ,cushions, etc etc. looking alot better now.Anyway , I would like to get in touch with some other Prairie owners. there isnt much info out there on line.I will try to pm topgallant .Oh yeah,to the guy that doesnt like the name thats just silly. Nice to be on board with CF .

Re: Questions About a Prairie 32

Sorry if this is a hijack but I'm about to be selling another Prairie 32 here in Annapolis if anyone thinks they missed out on the one in SC. I consider this one to be in rough to fair shape. Hull is solid, deck seems good but the rigging and interior floor will need help. I think the motor is toast too.

Let me know if there is any interest here. Should be super cheap.

Who cares if you have a belt buckle? I too think "Prairie" is a goofy name for a sailboat, but who cares what I think? Who cares? Why ask a question and then when you dont like what they say you get ugly,"get a life" .mean people suck! I have an airplane for sale it is an "Anvil 0-200" but, who cares?...

OK, I'll jump on the name bandwagon. If you have a boat named a Prairie, you have to get used to people giggling about the name. It's just silly.
