Poll: Full time cruisers, 2 or 3 cabin?

I'm trying to set up a poll, to identify what is the most popular option.

Re: Poll: Full time cruisers, 2 or 3 cabin?

Can't answer based on only those choices (our choice would be "1") and we're not full-time cruisers anyway...

But FWIW I'd guess the number of staterooms often chosen isn't a function of popularity but rather constant crew size (couple with kids? two couples? etc.) and/or expectation of guests. And/or folks wanting a boat in a certain size range, and being willing to use extra cabins for storage, etc...

Hard to answer that question as asked. We're full time cruisers, but only for 3 months a year--does that count? Anyhow, three cabins is our choice. Owner's version boat with guest cabin & a smaller cabin with bunks which serves as a storage cabin. The previous boat had two cabins & the guest cabin became the storage cabin, then became so full that guests couldn't be accommodated.

Re: Poll: Full time cruisers, 2 or 3 cabin?

This is basically what I am thinking about. Right now in my area there are a ton of 2 cabin (owner version) production 40 footers. 393-423 ect

I haven't began to cruise, but I am trying to focus on the correct boat.

My thinking was turning the 3rd cabin into storage. This way you would have the second cabin for the occasional visitor.

Right now I am one person.

Thanks

Maybe approach it from the other direction, then. How often might you have (overnight) guests? How many guests at a time? How much trouble might it be to empty a "storage stateroom" (or more) for those guests, that often?

How much storage might you need that might start flowing into a spare stateroom?

Might you want to re-purpose a stateroom for something else? (Office? TV room? Library? Whatever...)

And so forth...

Maybe useful to note, given a specific boat length, more staterooms often means less open space, and/or each stateroom might be smaller. Can also lead to access issues with various systems (ACs, batteries, holding tanks, water heaters, whatever) that might become more difficult to reach and service if the boat is crammed pretty full by design...
