This was worth another picture without the "crew"
Its actualy got loads of detail if you look closely!

Bird of Passage is a 48' S&S design with the cockpit forward of the pilot house. The cable driven steering shaft extended aft for the pilot house wheel and forward (through the house bulkhead) for the cockpit helm. Shaft length was about 24-30". That's a lot of wheels turning so we would remove the cockpit wheel when cruising under autopilot. You can check the layout in Beebe's book. It worked very effectively when I owned her in the 1980's.

Hey James, my favorite feature on that last pic is the incredibly roomy aft cabin behind the pilothouse. I'd say its at least 16" long!

Yeh mine too...before I shrunk it (the picture) you could see all kinds of detail...it really is a nice piece.

We just bought an older, much loved motorsailor, a Banjer 37, built in Holland, outfitted in Stanhope England and sailed, ultimately to San Francisco Bay. I've tried to post a picture of her but it is apparently not working, so here is a link to our owners club site:

Mine is the individual boat know as DaKine, we've renamed Rendezvous.

We bought her for her salty looks, in addition to what we wanted in a boat, a double ender, room inside for us to stand and sleep, I am 6'2", wife 6', and interior steering. My memories of sail SF Bay was being cold and wet as often as not.

Have no comments on her handling, we've spent the whole time we've owned her scrubbing and dealing with ships systems. However, with a sail area displacement in the high single digits, the sails are mostly for steadying. A sister ship in SF tell us that they do sail "OK" in our usual weather, small craft advisory conditions.

Our two trips, first from Alameda to her new dock on the San Rafael Canal, and second to Sausalito have had her perform as expected for crew comfort and handling the bay chop.

The early Fishers looked nearly identical to the Banjer, but have continued development, especially in the sailing capacity, and indeed, from 1972 Banjer offered the Transoceanic rig, which brought the sail area up with taller masts and a double head sail. The sail area displacement ratio for these is double digits.

Two more Pilot Houses that I have not seen listed on this thread. Fishers and Saturnas. Lots of pictures of Fishers on Yachtworld.

I have a Columbia 45. It is a MS due to the larger 85 hp instead of 50 hp. It also is one of 2 that have a lower helm station. The stick is only 50'3" above water line. Just like all other C45s. 260 of fuel instead of 220. OK, there you go.

Thank You Christian, I did try through my picasa account to post a picture of my Rendezvous, but it failed to make it, through the preview on advanced, so I posted the link instead. I shall have to resort to reading the instructions

The Admiral of Rendezvous is every bit as hot as the model on the brochure. When we get underway with boating adventures and photos, I'll be sure to post proof! As it stands at the moment, the only photos I have are ones taken for the yachtworld sales page. Rendezvous was listed less than a week when weMike bought her.

Meuritt thanks for the link. I could never remember the make of the boat, but it was a Banjer that first got me thinking of wanting a boat with a big engine and pilot house. The boat was called Duck Soup and was owned by a man named Brian in Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. He was a notorious character and a great help to my wife and I when we were there in the mid 90's waiting out the monsoon change in our Cascade 29. He had made many trips across the south Pacific in the boat, and it was kept in as close to perfect condition for an often used boat as I've ever seen.

Please have a look at our M/S a Colvic Watson 32. As we live in Brittany france and cruise the northern lats its ideal central heating /washing machine/spindryer/ generator/tv/dvd/sound system and all inside if its cold. If the weather ever gets hot ( we were in the med 2005 at 54c with all doors and hatches on and cool.
