Need to see it before I can decide if I like it...

What is an anchor throwing arm? the mind boggles, suppose the kids press the button and 100kg of Rocna is launched across a busy marina

Reminds me of the Swan 60 I spent a day on last summer. You stand ON that boat, not in it. On top of the boat, with nothing to hide behind at all. It's all deck, with no cockpit as such. The Swan didn't even have any place to sit, other than a couple of exposed benches as if grudgingly provided next to the companionway hatch.

The Oyster at least has some places to sit.

Green water on deck would sweep you straight overboard, never mind the tethers. This design must be good for some types of sailing (somewhere where it's Force 4 and sunny every day?), but certainly not for my kind of sailing. I shudder to think of being on such a boat in the North Sea.

Re: Pictures: Oyster releases first images of the new 835 and 895

The disgraceful Ferragamo ownership introduced marketing hype in The Nautor's line, thus destroying a long due legacy.

It is a real pity! BTW, if you want a boat alike, go for the real one (a WALLY) and not a mock up.

They are day sailing toys providing fun, what rich people aim for...

I hope you feel offended by my comment, this meaning that you are overly rich... :-)

The Oyster 835 and 895 have been designed to replace the successful Oyster 825 and 885.

The Oyster 835 will cost £5.25 million (ex VAT), while the Oyster 885 has a price tag of £6.1 million (ex VAT).

The announcement comes as Oyster Yachts continues to do well in the market.

The Southampton-based luxury yacht builder said it had so far sold 17 of its Oyster 825 and 885 yachts, two of its Oyster 118 yachts and 16 of its smaller models – the Oyster 565, 595, 675, and 745.
"

You see, they sell as many 80's as 50-60s

Reminds me a bit of a battle cruiser from WWII cut in half to be honest, put a super structure in the middle and a couple of gun turrets on there and hey presto you're in business.

I like the smaller Oysters, I think the 475 and the older 485 are pretty looking boats, the 485 is truly a work of art imo, very nice lines with just the right proportions.

I have decided i dont like this trend to open decks, being on it rather than part of it.

I also dont like the price.

Re: Pictures: Oyster releases first images of the new 835 and 895

You know the young British bloke who does those sailing demonstrations on the new boats? Remember watching him do a sail trial last year on an Italian slick mono hull. Was similar to this design of a flat deck...nowhere to hide. Seeing it with a CAD drawing and seeing the real platform move through the water are two different feelings.

For me...these are just expressions of wealth for the power brokers of the world. I do not think that they are meant for world cruising platforms. A week or two in the med....a week or two in the Carib...then have the crew move it to the next dream spot. These are not the boats for the "have nots"....silly wabbit to even look at such a thing....I seriously doubt that Oyster management would build such a boat without some serious marketing research into who will buy it...i.e., is there a market for it?
