Penguin Dinghy Sailboat ? You Tell Me . . .

Hello everyone,

Being brand new to this website, and brand new to owning my own sailboat, I recently was given a small 11'4'' Yellow sailboat, with a approx 19' Mast with no boom or sail. A aluminum centerboard that extends back into the boat (maybe called a daggerboard then?) and a missing rudder.

I have been doing a lot of research lately, and with the help from another forum decided that this boat must be a Penguin Sailboat. (not 100% obviously, just a guess)

I now have had it for a couple days, and have been cleaning it up through the current rainy days here in Massachusetts. Here are some pictures for viewing entertainment.

Thanks Guys,
Goomba

for a boat that has been sitting for 25+ years, it got pretty clean.

hope you enjoyed

Hi Goomba......Welcome to the forum......
That boat has a "centerboard"....a "daggerboard" would move straight up and down.
I seem to remember that the Penguin had a closed foredeck, with "splash diverter" (a v shaped raised section) on it. I could be mistaken, I last saw a Penguin about 25 years ago.
Could be theres a Penguin owners site for more info.
Enjoy the boat..........the little ones are a blast to sail!!!

thanks for clearing up the Centerboard/Daggerboard confusion. The reason why i'm hesitant to call this a turnabout (best other boat i think it can be) is that I can't seem to find one that over 10ft long the N-10's but then still I am not sure.

Penguins have hard chines like the boat in the pix. I used to have one made of plywood when I was a kid. Fast, efficient pointed well and could be sailed in stong winds with two people on board to hike out. As I recall we usually got a wet ride but it sure was fun.

Pretty certain that is a Penguin, a Rhodes design. That's the boat I learned to sail in.
Cranky downwind in a breeze but other than that a superb boat.
