Pearson 53

I am very interested in purchasing a Pearson 53 ketch although I have never sailed one. Anyone with experience on this boat?

I had no clue they made a beast that size. I wasn't wearing my glasses and thought this was about Pearson 33s!

Re: Pearson 53

A quick look around the net shows very few, and centerboards appear to be common. For that size of boat I would be looking at manufactures that made large boats in number.

Re: Pearson 53

We have #11 in FL and are in the process of refitting in Marathon. I think there were 17 built and all were semi-custom orders. Ours has a swing keel/centerboard. Would be happy to talk to anyone with experience sailing these boats.

Re: Pearson 53

I had spent about 20 min. typing a response to questions that were posed - hit submit and lost it all....a programming problem. My main thrust was to list several other owners of the 53'. There were 30 built in the 82-82 time frame. Most were with boards but don't know the breakdown. The following boats have been around a long time with the same owners: Seawitch, John and Susan, 508.631.6535-a charter boat that works in Caribbean in winter and Martha's Vineyard in the summer. Skipping Stone, Andrew & Nikke, cruisers who rarely turn on their engine,, 305.731.3065, capta@skippingstonesailing.com. Isla, Wayne & Linda Corcorran. Cell 772.538.7928; email lcorky@aol.com Have extensively modified the interior and been aboart 12+ years-sail the boat a lot. There is another 53' in Coral Bay St. John but have not met owners. Only other 53' I have seen was in Maryland and the boat was being rehabbed and had a long way to go.

Someone wrote about the 53' "Built like a tank and sails like a stallion".

There is no owners association but it would be a good idea to start one.

Re: Pearson 53

Thank you for the correction on # built. We enjoy the boat very much. She is coming together very well. She sat unattended at the dock for five years and suffered because of it. We are working at making her happy. Seems to be working.

Re: Pearson 53

The registry is a wonderful idea. We have had several questions in the last six months. We would love to talk with other owners. Our contact info is SERAPHIM; Michael and Patty Wiest; yachtcowboy@gmail.com or yachtcowgirl@yahoo.com. We will be happy to help with an owner's association or registry.

We understand that Pearson 530 hull #1 might be in Marathon as well.

Re: Pearson 53

Hi I have hull # 9. A week ago one left Oahu heading to Mexico. There is one in Mexico for sale right now. And another one will be coming up for sale in Marina del Rey. A one owner boat. Owner passed away. Family will be selling her. I would love to talk with other owners.

Re: Pearson 53

I used to see one around Casco Bay many years ago when we sailed a Pearson 40 and it was a fine looking boat with a great interior!

Re: Pearson 53

Hull #2 is Adventuress, currently being refit in St Augustine, FL. Deep keel. I’ve had her for a few years now, but she’s mostly been in the yard. Firstly, she’s electric, and secondly, her name used to be Warp 9.
