Pearson 36-2 Mast Step Question

Hi, I'm looking for a Pearson 36-2 owner to help me with the following question ...

I've owned a 1985 Pearson 36-2 for 6 years. During the launch this year I noticed the keel mast step is not flat front to back. The steel plate which the mast sits on and which is bolted to two cross members above the keel, is sunken into the gelcoated aft cross member by 3 tenths of an inch. The steel plate is not sunken in on the fwd cross member. I don't recall the steel plate being sunken into the aft cross member, however the gelcoat is not cracked and one could think it was formed that way. Can anyone tell me if the steel plate should be sunken into the aft cross member?

Thanks.

The surveyor advise i should looking at fixing it with placing a big SS plate under the mast before any cracks
I'm taking over the boat next week and I will see what the best way to fix it
Will let you know how's it go

Hi Hany,

Thanks for the reply. I've decided to add a plate to my boat too. I will send you pictures of my plan when I get ready to do it in about one month. Good luck with the take over of your new boat. I'm always getting compliments from other sailors about how well the Pearson brand is built and looks.

Frank
