Pearson 32 Headsail Selection

Hi, I have a Pearson 32 and am ready to replace my current Headsail. From what I can tell, the sail I have is the original sail but was cut short at the bottom for visibility. We do a little racing with my boat so I am thinking that part of the benefit of buying this new sail will be to once again have those extra square feet of power. The thing I'm not sure about is the size. The original boat plans called for something like a 162 for the number 1 head sail. My sailmaker is recommending a 155 because he's concerned that the large Headsail may not function well and will block the main. Does anyone have this boat with the stock size number 1 on it and if so how does it perform? If anyone has other thoughts on this I would be happy to hear them.

i have 3 old pearson 150s 2mylar and one dacron and i gotta tell u there a lot of sail,lots of power my 160[drifter?] is about the sme material as my spinns are..lightweight low wind material.when i got MAGIC she had 13 sails so i just had to buy a new set of offshore weight by fx sails !cool beans the offshore material is awesome,heavy,and ive been putinit to her since,over 2000nm down the eastern seaboard in november & dec,all offshore routes until fla and then have crossed to the abacos in the bahamas.77 degreess and a 10 to 15 breeze today , truly awesome!!!
