Pearson 28

I am new to the forum. Just bought a nice old girl.. a Pearson 28. (1975) In good shape structurally but needs a little TLC inside. Mostly the fresh water system. The original sink pumps are there but do not work. Does anyone have much experience with these? Is it possible or realistic to rebuild them with new seals or should I buy new ones? If I should buy any suggestions of what to get. The water tank is new installed by previous owner. But he didn't fix the sink pumps.
The water supply is pretty important because we'll be doing some cruising.

Tnx all

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, windcree.

Most pumps can be repaired.

I have a Pearson 28. It has whale gusher mk 3s I believe. Easy to fix, and cheap enough to buy new. Note these are all foot operated, which if you'll be cruising on a small boat, you'll want over a motorized pump anyways.

that looks like the bilge pump. I have a problem with the Sink pump. Not a foot pump but a rod that is pushed and pulled.

The link is for an electric pump. Mine is manual. A push and pull rod on the sink faucet

Definitely a galley pump : http://www.iboats.com/Gusher-Galley-...HQQBoCxFDw_wcB

Can't guarantee its original. You probably have a 28-1.1 whereas I have a 28-1.2. Maybe different outfitting. Sorry I can't help with the hand-operating one, but I do love mine!

Re: Pearson 28

Hey Windcree. Another P 28-1 owner here. I have read where those footpumps can be repaired but have never tried to do so. Replacing one looks simple enough to me. At least you don't have to do the work of citing, cutting the holes etc. for placement eh? I think you can get one new for around $50. WMs 2009 catalogue has them at $30.
I would play around with fixing one with the money available to buy new if it can't be done. You never know. Good to know how to do that anyway.
Maybe someone here has worked on one.
Good luck and happy sailing!!

Thank you... I sailed it today and it is fantastic.
Thanks for the advise on the water faucet. I'll check the pump first to try to rebuild it and if not I'll go to WM. Again.. Thanks

Re: Pearson 28

Congratulations on the Pearson 28. I had a Pearson 27 Renegade for 3 years in Puerto Rico, and I loved it.
