Hi everyone

Thank you so much for all your replies. It is much appreciated! You guys are great.

I'm gonna keep my mouth shut and not ask too many questions. However, if some officials should ask about VAT, it is good to know the rules.

The thread does not stop here. If anyone has more comments, please keep them coming.

I will search more on the internet and post if I find new stuff.

The key issue: Per the original post, the boat was not in the EU customs area at the critical times. Therefore it doesn't enjoy the exemption due to age. There is a good chance the OP has so far gotten away with it because, on the surface it looks like it should be exempt.

In addition the yacht changed hands outside the EU and was then imported. The Spanish like most southern European Countries are broke, a yacht is an easy target. Keep your head down and blend in.

But he might be judgement proof. A 1970's vintage yatch is likely not going to be assessed as very valuable. If the 10% rule is true, it could be a lot of hassle for the official to collect a couple hundred bucks.

Now if you are bringing a million dollar boat in...that's a different story.

For boats of 14 years or older, the value is indeed 10% of the one in the table.

It is my understanding that EU citizens/residents must pay VAT on boats brought in from abroad upon entry to the EU.
