Patreon Income

have been following 2 of the most successful Vlogers on youtube now for a few years.

Some of the earning per month are becoming astounding and rival well paid jobs

Two examples below:

Delos USD 5,558 per Video (they have been doing this for over 3 years now)
https://www.patreon.com/svdelos?ty=h

but probable the most successful in just 12 months would be

Vagabond USD 5,749
https://www.patreon.com/LaVagabonde?ty=h

Any others out there also considering doing this professionally, there seems to be market for well put together Vlogs with the right "Actors"

Re: Patreon Income

There is obviously a market and good money to be made but I see it like the music industry or like acting. For every rich, rock and roll star or every famous actor there are literally thousands of wannabees that are playing in bars or doing bit parts and commercials making little better than minimum wage.

If you are talented AND lucky then you might make good money at it or you might be one of the 99% that just get by.

I disagree with you. The Vlogers mentioned are successful because they have not only invested in time and equipment but they put out a good product with interesting subject matter. If the wannabees want to be equally successful find a differentiator and spend time and money in editing and equipment so they too can put out a good product that attract an audience.

Maybe internet vlogging and youtube videos are different that the rest of the entertainment industry but I seriously doubt it. I was in the music business for several years and have a number of good friends and family members that are professional musicians.

I stand by my statement, there are thousands of fantastic musicians out there working their butts off and making great music that are barely getting by. I promoted a band in Atlanta years ago that were all great musicians, did all their own, original music, were innovative but still accessible and marketable. Just couldn't get a break and they finally broke up and went their separate ways. That is just one example of many that I personally know of.

To be successful IE make good money in anything that involves entertainment be it music, acting, blogging or vlogging takes talent, hard work, good marketing and luck. Unfortunately sometimes marketing and luck are bigger factors than talent as is well demonstrated by what one hears on the radio these days. Putting out a good product is not a guarantee of success.

Re: Patreon Income

Both the vblogs mentioned have 2 things in common.

1. Hot girls/guys wearing very little (mostly the girls though).
2. They do not target cruisers as their audience.

I have spoken with both of those vbloggers through e-mail and they understand their audience very well. They put out a good product that entertains their audience. They are also great people and interact with their fans.

Also don't discount the amount that is coming from "home town" sources. Don't assume random people on the internet are paying these people 5K+ per month. I suspect over 1/2 their pledged income is from family/friends and home town sources.

It doesn't hurt that on SV Delos the girls get naked quite often, though blurred out. Their videos have never really drawn me in. They are pretty and well shot, but I feel they lack substance. To be fair I haven't watched to many videos, so maybe there are better ones that I haven't seen.

I enjoy the Sailing Lavagabond videos. They put a lot of effort into their videos and it shows. I enjoy their sense of humor and goofiness and they get some good shots of sailing.

I've read about a few others that are recruiting crew members in the effort to enter the money making endeavor. Cheeky Monkey sounds familiar. I believe there is another boat in the Med that has 20 gopro's attached around the boat with a bunch of women on board, I don't remember the name though.

Re: Patreon Income

I enjoyed Delos and La Vagabond, 2 different styles although many things in common. I think they both have that "new to sailing get up and do it" feel, it attracts many non sailors as it is entertaining beyond the sailing. Riley and his GF have gotten much better and seem very down to earth and easy to follow. I find tools like Patreon to be excellent, like someone said here if you put in the effort and do a well edited video with fun issues beyond sailing people will see them and commit to $, to me I hope more come on board, I rather pay for something I enjoy than what I pay for cable that is junk...

A guy sailing a very small yacht near Dublin solo is not the thing dreams are made of.

Perhaps you could try a kickstarter campaign to finance the purchase of a bigger yacht in an exotic location. If the campaign is very successful maybe it can also finance the acting talent to give viewers something to want to return to

Delos is also now offering unpixilated versions. At a higher price, of course. I'm sure it will take milliseconds for them to discover that porn pays even better than shaking your digital ass.

I give money to Keep Turning Left. Really high quality production, very interesting videos.

Re: Patreon Income

What ever happened to the old Soviet "Naked News" ?

I think I'm going to start a blog about blowhards with hair that looks like cheap wigs, who go around disarming IEDs in order to rescue kittens and baby ducks, in their spare time between campaign speeches.

That oughta cover all the bases.

Well cheer up. Sailing the Irish coast in my small yacht is one of my dreams, but I guess I'm not your average internet voyeur.
