Terrible news, which will mean less competition and higher prices.

Of course, the company was never the same without Richard Matthews.

Maybe he'll buy the name back from the liquidators?

Or maybe it will be Groupe Beneteau, following the example of Hanse Group?

It could just be that this related to the keel loss of that big Oyster of the Spanish coast. Anybody aware of the final outcome of this?

They weren’t the first and I fear they will be followed.
It’s a symbol I believe in what the 21st Century wealthy find important.
Why pay so much money for to them so little Boat, when for a lot less, you can get big, flashy, modern looking and lots more room to entertain, you know open spaces and big windows
These people don’t leave the Marina often and motor when they do, Women in their Cocktail dresses as they walk around the deck a drink in hand.

I see the same in the Mc Mansions, very poorly built, but big and impressive looking from the street.

What sells now is Mc Boats, just like the Mc Mansions

Our magazine (which has investigated this case) maintains constant contact with the owner of the sunked yacht, the conflict has not yet been settled completely.

I don't buy it, I mean somebody is going to buy it and this is a way of making a complete reformulation of the company firing all the employees to contract again only the ones they want.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. .......... ..............................Probably it will become a smaller company specialized even more on the luxury sector of yachting and a more profitable one:

Damn, that does suck.. I really love the Oyster brand and wanted to purchase a new one, one day.. Never thought they would go under being so well known and built so many awesome boats.. I'll have to read the article now to see what the hell happened.

Yes, I think you may have it.

The idea of a mass produced basically disposable boat has reached the 50+ foot and 60+ foot ranges only recently. Examples are the Hanse 575 and the CNB boats -- the "McMansions" of sailing yachts.

And who are we to say that such boats don't make perfect sense? The acquisition cost is 1/2 or 1/3 of a similar Oyster or Discovery, and most buyers don't really care all that much about the differences. Buy an Oyster for €2 million or €3 million and sell it for half that a few years later -- the depreciation alone is more than what you would pay for a "McYacht".

I do think that the rise of such boats, which didn't really exist 10 years ago, must have really cut into Oyster's market. They build boats right, and it is expensive to do that. Oyster previously got a significant premium for understanding how to create that luxury cachet -- that's how they put Moody under -- but maybe that is no longer enough.

Still, if they really have an order book of 80 million pounds, perhaps the company will reappear in some different form. Will be interesting to see.

OK, only one, and in 2015. But that's one too many and the pics of that incident look like shoddy build was the cause. Have any keels fallen off a Hanse 575?

I love the look of Oyster yachts, always lusted after one until the 2015 issue was in the press (pure dreaming I'll never be in a position to buy one). Maybe a lot of other people felt the same though.
