Oyster 435-485 range- any bad models?

I wonder if Oyster had any issues with models 46, 435, 45/47/475 and 485?
Are the boats still worth of interest?

Why buy a 485 when you can have 50% more boat in a 53 for not that much more money? Disclaimer: We have a very nice, fully equipped 2001 Oyster 53 for sale.

You missed out both the Pilot House 49 (Holman Pye) and the later 49 by Rob Humphreys. Both remain worthy of interest as do the others that you list

The 53 is great (and the OP should look at Ken's boat), but some people prefer the Holman & Pye designs like the 485.


The 485 is an absolutely gorgeous boat -- one of the prettiest ever made I think -- I almost bought one -- but slow.


I think given the choice between a 485 and a 53, I would probably go with the 53, which is maybe not as pretty but much more comfortable, and as Ken says, not that much more expensive. The 485 is a pretty small boat compared to more modern 49 footers.

485 is on market for almost 20 years and new designs are much more roomy.
Still it is a question to buy the newer one and make compromises on some stuff , or to buy older one and make refit according to my needs.
budget is one but way of spending it are different.
What is also important I need the boat from EU market with VAT paid.
I can not see important differences between designs. Ols boats from Oyster seems to be very reputable and seaworthy.
