Outboard bracket for Capri 30

Hello all.

I have found a Capri 30 that needs some serious TLC.

One of the necessities is mounting an outboard on the transom bracket.
Does anyone have detailed instructions.

Thanks
Steve

Which Capri 30 is it? Old one (Chris Craft) or new one? Got a photo?

Re: Outboard bracket for Capri 30

Don, I'm not sure. The boat is older but particulars are a bit sketchy. What do I really need to know to make an informed buying decision? One report I read states that some Capri 30s were raced hard, that original construction was somewhat light and that, because of that certain integraties might need reinforcement.
Any information you might have would be helpful. Thanks

Do you want to race or cruise?

The Chris Craft boats had a good reputation for design and build but not for racing especially now. It's a Sparkman and Stephens design and would make a nice little pocket cruiser esp. for the Caribbean (shoal draft, centerboard) With age though there may be some areas to check like deck or water intrusion at chain plates, stuff like that. I have heard hulls were laid up well though, no coring and blisters etc.

The Catalina Capri 30 is a nice little race boat

Re: Outboard bracket for Capri 30

Thanks Don .
This is the Catalina Capri 30 and I am primary interested in racing. Currently we're racing an Ericsson 27, on Newport Harbor, but even with a 238 rating we're pretty much last in Class E, all the time, even on corrected time. I am ready to be in the hunt. However the Capri 30 here is just one step above being a basket case and will need work to be viable again. One of the first orders of business is to get an outboard, probably 9 horse, so at least we ca get around.
Thanks again for your input, I'll look closely at any water seepage, chain plate erosion, etc.

Congrats! That is a fast boat. Been beaten by a few back in the day.
Just get an aluminum folding bracket for it to allw it to get deep enough in the eater and get completely out when racing. If you are racing only I would get the lightest bracket and motor available. 10hp way to heavy for racing.

Yeah I'd echo that. 4 or 5 horse would get you out well enough I'd think. Or a pair of oars and you really will be light! So I have not sailed a Capri 30, are the chainplates through-bolted to the bulkhead and that is tabbed in? And is the tabbing coming apart or the bulkhead?

Check this, there is a photo of an outboard on a bracket on a Capri 30.

15 hp is a bit of overkill!
