Our New Boat - a Martzcraft 35

Hi All,


After well over a year of looking/dreaming/getting frustrated/looking again.....we have finally settled on and bought our next boat!

She is a Martzcraft 35. I have noticed that there are a few Martzcraft 35 owner's here, and I would certainly welcome any and all advice!!

She needs a bit of cleaning up but has she very good bones, a good layout, and a new engine.

We had been looking actively for over a year and our list included...

-A cruising boat,
-32-36 ft,
-Solid and blue watery,
-A good compromise between traditional/modern design,
-A layout that would suit a family both for extended/local cruising
-That we could afford (Basically we came to the realization that in this price bracket we get more boat by buying slightly older and an Aussie boat rather than an imported production boat)

Never heard of it, which is not surprising as I live in Eastern Canada.

I would love to see some pictures and read some specs, however, as I always like to learn about classic plastics.

Post picks when you can. If I am thinking of the correct boat, we have very similar interior layout.

I have one of them and the only advice I would give is "don't stuff around, sail it." They aren't the fastest boat around but very strong and an absolute pleasure to sail. I love mine and will be heading to the Whitsundays at the end of May.

Congratulations.
Great boats, and outstandingly well built.
They were based on a Bruce Roberts design originally so a good design pedigree too.
Most were built as sloops or cutters, but a few were ketch rigged.
What did you end up with?

She is not as slow as I had actually feared, our last boat was a Supersonic 27, an IOR quarter Tonner, so I was concerned about her being a slower heavier boat....we were out last weekend, and in flukey winds 5-10kts with an old tattered main we were still moving quite respectively under sail(Log not working....this weeks project.... so not sure exactly on speed, but we were actually moving, maybe 3-4 knots??)

Drinky......we are looking at heading up the Whitsundays in July.....maybe we could hold like a mini Martzcraft Regatta?

You have got youself a good boat. The hull is a Bruce Roberts design and I belive one of his best under sail, It was also used on the South Coast 36. every one I have sailed on had a problem with the cockpit floor leaking when in lumpy seaway, I have been told using a non skinning Butal Mastic between the joint is the best fix.

I will also be in the Whitsundays at that time, so say hello.

I'll second that, terrific style of bloke, I used to work nearby his operation in Kurnell where the 35s were built, he helped LOTS of people into a terrific cruising yacht & apparently still does with the current vessel. All the best from Jeff

i am looking at buying a Martzcraft 35 (1990)and am curious to know the keel design.
Haven't seen a photo of the hull.
Any advice appreciated if its semi displacement fin keel or full keel.
Sailing performance and turn of speed.

The Martzcrafts however are great capable boats. Like most cruising boats they are not light air performers but with a good wind they make dependable cruising speeds. They are bullet proof however and have a great layout for cruising.
