Opinions please, of Spencer 31

Dear Sailors,

' Spied one of the above that's for sale today, with a blown Atomic 4, furling headsail, mainsail, both in "fair condition priced to sell at $3,000.

I've only seen a photo, but what's pictured looks nearly impeccable and well maintained. I know that I have the ability to rebuild the engine, etc. Depending on what I find on a thorough inspection, what in your opinion would qualify as a deal breaker? (Understanding that I'm not afraid of gritty labour nor in fear of boat yoga). I've never been on a Spencer.

Thanks in advance, Salty Ones!

Cheers,

What year? Any pictures, details? If it was constructed in 66 it could be " classis plastic" or a tomb based on original build quality and upkeep for the last half century. So few were made there's little information available.

Yes, Orion Jim, only 24 of this length were built in Vancouver, B.C.

I don't know the year she was constructed yet, and can't get you a photo til I snap it myself. In the ad picture she looks immaculate and fresh, showing her years more gracefully than some other vessels half that age. My guess would be mid seventies or so. The builders were making plywood motor cruisers from startup in '66, and moved to sail after realizing the winds blow all year in the PNW.

Thanks for your cautionary advice. It is appreciated.

Cheers,
