Oh, and by the way. It took 22 days to sail her from Hawaii to the Straits of Juan de Fuca in Washington State so she was not a dog for her short waterline, clipper bow and long bowsprit.

The reason links are often not found on the forum is because, in the first few minutes after a link is posted, many forum members click on it and overload the available bandwidth for a typical blog server.

Notice the time interval between Butler's and CaptainKJ's posts.

When this happens, most often success can be achieved simply by waiting a few minutes and trying again.


edit, I get the same results CaptainKJ, ( a broken internal page link), so in this case my comments don't apply, though at other times they do.

Not trying to get to technical. First I like the blog and the web site and the boat. Actually LOVE the boat. Probably being too helpful but I read lots of sites and have found owners do like to hear about the little problems with the site as no one can proof read a whole site and keep adding to it every week with out mistakes happening.

Good boats, sail well, likes lots of wind.
Lack of a mast post, under the Main mast means check for sagging under the main mast.
This design, opened the area between the cabin and head.
Many had a support beam installed under the mast and it was bolted to the forward bulkheads, be sure to check this area, and under the floor for rot.
Love mine, comfortable, mostly dry, some small leaks from the toerails.
In heavy wind, it's nice to just use the jib and Mizzen to sail the boat, don't really need to reef.

I have sailed a 31 mariner ketch in strong wind conditions and it is stable, heavy and we hit close to 7 knots only having to sheet the main out a bit to keep the woman from shouting. Also we punched it through a 25 ft breaking wave with no problem except water in the cockpit and a terrified girlfriend. Epic. We have to sell it if anyone is interested. Oceanside California. $25k.

I owned a Garden 35 Ketch for 20 years 1987-2007. it was built of wood in japan and copper riveted hull. After awhile I never used the mizzen except to hold an awning. It sailed well in a breeze and reaching was fast at 7.9kn. very heavy at 10 tons. However eventually the cabin sides started to rot and I sold it. Biggest trip was 1000 miles to rio dulce and back. Lived on it for 3 years in San Diego with wife 2 cats and mean lil dog. Very comfy and cozy. Was basically built with so-called Phillippeen mahogany which is rot prone and is what door skins are made of. Had the entire decks rebuilt with marine ply and epoxy. Pretty boaty.

Mariner 31 ketch threw a rod and we can't afford to pay for a new motor. Will let it go for $5k. Likely$5k is needed to replace the motor (likely less) and the boat would have a value of about $20k. Has terrific Ullman sails and is a safe bluwater boat.
