Online tracker Sydney to Hobart

Hi all,
If you haven't seen it yet there is a cool tracker at Tracker - Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2012

Hover over a yacht and it shows paths/ points travelled.

I found I have to manually update by hitting show latest but it's all good to see the different tracks and I think I might overlay a grib and see how and why they do.

At the 5:44 hour mark I see Sid Fischer is in second place. Cheering for him here - at the age of 85 its his 44th Sydney to Hobart!

You are fortunate - I have been trying to follow it, trying to get the tracker to work and trying to follow the yahoo 7 feed. The feed is not going out of Australia (I am currently in Vietnam) the tracker appears to be in melt down and I can't find any official press releases. Best info I can get is from the thread on Sailing Anarchy.

I can't get the tracker to work either, but my internet is excruciatingly slow (in Crete here) so satallite images don't generally load well.
If you go to the official Rolex website:
Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race 2012
it gives the hour count on the top right and the leader board a bit further below it and then all the updates .
Looks like it will be an easy race this year.

Gotta love this businessman's passion for racing! A couple of wins in this classic offshore race over 43 years, a win in another classic (the Fastnet) in 1971 and five self funded America's Cup attempts....
A Sydney to Hobart win this year as an octogenarian would be fabulous .

I hear that since Laura Dekker is one year shy of the minimum age, she will crew Akatea for the return. Akatea is a new NZ boat, and is one of 3 Cookson 50s in the race. Anyone have the scoop on this?

Unless something catastrophic happens, Wild Oats XI has this in the bag with a new record to boot.

Yeah, like running out of fuel for their diesel powered hydraulic keel system!

So, it's all over.
Wild Oats broke the record but the huge lead shrunk to 17 minutes in the end.

The official website is hopeless LOL. Shows race has been won, but no other info. I thought the previous record was 42+ hours. Today's finish was 43+ hours? So the 2005 record was not broken?

Re: Online tracker Sydney to Hobart

As copied from the news sources now reporting,

Wild Oats crossed the line just before 7.30am (AEDT) with a new race record of one day, 18 hours, 23 minutes and 12 seconds, breaking the mark it set in 2005 by nearly 17 minutes.

Thanks, found the info on Google news now . The official website seemed to indicate the finish time was 43+ hours, which didn't make sense.
