Off Shore Boat Price Consideration

Not looking at 250,000 boats just your adverage beat down dock queens. I do know a friend of mine did buy a cape George 38 asking price 220,000 got it for 140,000. Two years later needed a repower because he accidenly flooded the motor. That cost him 35,000. Trust me im not claiming im so sort of big shot yachter, just someone trying to get by and have some fun along the way.

I think you are trying to deflect my question. $35K to repower a $220K boat is reasonable and was probably reflected in the $140K your friend paid. My question to you is shouldn't you know basic repowering costs if you're looking at "beat down dock queens"? And if you don't know, how do you arrive at 1/3-1/2 off asking prices?

Because their beat down. BTW his motor was almost new when he aquired the boat,he messed it up. I do know basic repowering costs for your adveradge plastic classic. 8,000-10,000 that is usually 1/2 the cost of the boats I can afford.

A $8-$10k repower is just the engine and trans. Add a $300 racor, hoses, muffler, cutlass bearing, engine mounts, all sorts of stuff goes into a premium quality repower, and then labor. Add $5k or more to be realistic.

Upset? Hardly, I just think if you, by your own admission, are looking at the bottom of the heap in boats then you need to be more realistic about the condition of your choices. As for the advice to "brokers", they often have little control over the condition of bottom of the pile boats much to their chagrin I'm sure.

Your advice about offering 1/3-1/2 of asking price is absurd except in rare circumstances, and most of us here know that. You've come across with bs a few times and when challenged you feign humor. If you are truly in the market for a boat, $20K or $250K, you can get a lot of good advice from some seasoned sailors here but just don't try and bs your way around.
