Novice looking for a 36+ to kick around in the Caribbean

I sailed my yacht, "Transcendence" a Cascade 36, from Ireland to the Caribbean in 2010 and have cruised the islands for 3 months eavh winter since then.Now, 2 heart attacks and 5 stents are forcing me to sell her.

Thanks for the comments, I'm actually a big fan of the Beneteau's and have already pulled two out of the water for inspection over the last 3 years to no avail. But do to a recent divorce I don't have that kind of disposable income anymore and they seem to run twice as much as say a Hunter with the same LOA. So I'm looking at some other brands and I will go with something that I think I would like and is equipped but I just don't know how all the brands compare on the seaworthy scale. For example, I like both the looks and layout of the Hunters and Catalinas but their price range is different for the same LOA and same equipment.....so which one is better, safer, better sailing....that's what I'm trying to determine.

I already tried to buy the Paradox (Never Monday's boat) I was a few hours late and he already had someone in line before me.

I already got a loan to buy the Paradox and its good for 45 days, so right now anything in the 35-40k range...could probably bump that up to the 50K range depending how big.

I'm also trying to stay between 36-40 ft as there are very few slips in the DC /VA area that can accommodate anything bigger......they exist but I needed to have rented them 5 months ago and I want to buy a boat that I can keep here so I can use it now.

I agree seems like the right kinda of boat for what you described you wanted to do.

We will be doing the ICW and Bahamas next year with our CS33, Same design as the 36 just a little smaller and less draft (4.5ft) just remember that anything over 35ft your expenses for cruising permits etc go up. Love our CS sails well in light air and well built,but do have a reputation for osmosis so look for one that has had a bottom job or be prepared to do one.

As per soldboats.com "Monday Never" is priced right in the middle of the road for a Merlin 36.

Don't consider and old C&C unless you love digging rotten balsa core out of the bottom.

CS33 would be a good one, even a CS 30 for a single guy. The CS's did have a few years with bad gelcoat problems that caused blisters (79-81) but they were all cosmetic.

I think they have a sale pending although they said they would keep us updated. One hell of a good presentation of the vessel.
