your boat gets trapped in ice...what to do?

in my dream I set bumpers between the ice and hull...as the ice constructed the hull lifted over the ice leaving only the keel stuck in ice.

so I am guessing in real life the boat gets crushed and I head to the nearest Hilton??

start heating water and pouring it down the thru holes?

I had an idea for a steel boat which would be designed to get iced in in winter, you can always rise up using above method.


Also a multihull could be fitted with skis, and allow sailing much faster on ice than water.

If your boat is trapped in pack ice, I'd say prep for loss of the boat, but stay with it until it actually happens.

If your boat is trapped in fast ice, that is you are in a small bay and the water freezes around you, you may be just fine depending on the boat and construction.
