The other thing I discovered was that I was imposing too many things on the designer that I was adamant about, for one reason or another, and in the end I was detracting from the final result.
It's easy to come up with a list of detailled must haves but in the end you might not end up with a boat. It's hard to give up a few things to get some great things you never thought about and I think that is the trouble. A good boat design is about the whole picture not just the bits and you need the whole picture more than a few of the bits. On balnce you can get more than just your list of items working from a known good design.
