Need Yard storage in NE for 40' sailboat
Friends from Germany want to leave their boat in the NE for about 8 months. Looking for a good spot at a reasonable price. Mast up. Any suggestions?

Annapolis maybe. Cheaper Florida etc.

Re: Need Yard storage in NE for 40' sailboat
If they want to leave it in the water over in say St Michaels on the Eastern shore of the Chesapeake I will take care of it for them and sail it almost every weekend and treat it like my own and love it for them at no charge. It will be ready for them when they need it! ....As long as it is not a Hunter. ...well ok I'll even love a hunter. ; )

If they are looking for reasonable, generally NY and north is not cheap. Maybe all the way north to Maine but CT, RI, MA are mostly very expensive.
I think Delaware and south is where to go for lower cost.

Oh yeah, forgot about them. Google Anglers Marina, Lewes DE. Not as high end as Herrington Harbor...probably cheaper. Only about 45 min from my house!

Stopped at Anglers in Lewes on the way south and found it one of the friendliest places I've been in years.

Re: Need Yard storage in NE for 40' sailboat
There are a number of very reasonable yards in Narragansett Bay, not in the lower bay near newport but upper bay. My 47 foot cost $1340.00 to store for winter, haul, bottom wash and re-launch included, if storing longer they don't raise rates, same as winter season rate. If it erected send me private message and I'll give more specific info. Mass and Conn more expensive by far, I live in Mass jeep my boat in RI.

Certain yards owned by MA,RI, Conn chain are expensive but many family owned and independents are very reasonable and have fewer restrictions.

Re: Need Yard storage in NE for 40' sailboat
"NE" is a big area.....nice spot, good price? What the heck does that mean? There are hundreds and hundreds of possibilities. By NE do you mean Maine or do you mean Virginia? Perhaps you could be a bit more specific. What size boat? Do they want to be near a major airport or big city? Do they need facilities? What size travel lift? Do they care if it is going to have a long hard freeze? Will they need to cover it in canvas or shrink wrap? How can we on this forum help narrow down your choices? Again "NE" is a big area with hundreds of marinas.

Re: Need Yard storage in NE for 40' sailboat
We've kept our boat at Bristol Marine in Bristol, RI for several years. Same size boat, mast up. There are good services on site or in the area and the yard is active throughout the winter. Not cheap, but the fact that a lot of boats come from other ports to spend the winter suggests it's a fair value.
