Re: Need new interior cushions - Eastern Maryland

Meade Breese is an excellent sailmaker, now building a staysail for me over the winter. But I think he concentrates on sails.

'Canvas by Victoria' is based out of Worton, MD. Vickie does all things canvas and has won several awards. She may also do interiors.

Re: Need new interior cushions - Eastern Maryland

Not to hi-jack the thread, but coming at it from a different angle:

The foam in my Bayfield 29's various cushions is in reasonably good shape; still spongy and viable. But I think it is disintegrating in places; at least on the surface. When I plop down on a settee cushion, and the sunlight is streaming in, I can see a cloud of dust scattering around the cabin. I thought I had a dusty boat, but now believe this is foam particles. The cushion fabric throughout is a very open weave.

Replacing the foam is a very expensive prospect, as has been noted here, so I wonder—and seek comments on—whether I can buy some time by putting sheet plastic around, or at least over, the foam. That would contain the dust, but might trap humidity; might make a little noise when sat on, but would certainly be cheaper than replacing foam. Comments welcome.

Also, a lot of upholsterer names up in Maryland have been mentioned; any notable names in the Deltaville, say down to Yorktown, area? I live in Williamsburg; the boat stays on the Rappahannock.

-thanks!

Re: Need new interior cushions - Eastern Maryland

I had mine done on my old boat when it was in Haven Harbour Marina in Rock Hall. It was a husband/wife team I found through the marina. Their names escape me at the moment but you could call the marina and they would tell you.

Great piece of advice from the guy when we were talking while he measured the boat. He said "Steve, don't ever fire your wife. I did once and it will never end the way you think it will"
