need help identifying a furler....

Hi all -

I'm going to post this in a few forums to cast a wide net.

I need to figure out what brand this system is...I can't find any identifying marks on it and i'd like to find instructions or documentation for it.

When the yard hauled it last fall, they took down the headsail, even though they weren't supposed to. Because the boat was new to me, i wanted to take it down myself and document the process so i could put it back together in the spring. Anyway, now the yard is dragging it out, not getting around to repairing/installing. If i can figure it out, i'll do it. I can't figure out if it's a failed wire to rope halyard or what's missing.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

thanks.

Best guess is it's an old Stream stay unit. Google it, someone still makes parts for it.

Re: need help identifying a furler....

thanks all. Apparently it's an old CDI unit from the 80s. The service manager for the yard/marina figured it out and showed me how to hoist the sail.

I'm going to try it at my mooring in the next few days so i can point it into the wind.

An old Cruising Design Reefer which I designed in 1978-41 years old and still rolling! The company is still around at Cruising Design International.

You started CDI, pre-Joe Damon?

Re: need help identifying a furler....

Yes, I founded Cruising Design in 1977 after leaving Hood Yacht Systems and sold it to Joe Damon about 8 years later. Harken's ad budget for their new furler was bigger than CDI's entire sales volume! The Reefer has had a long life as I see them on older boats up and down the East Coast.

Well I'm Joel I run CDI now in Winnipeg, nice to meet you! Do you mind if I ask your name? We only knew Joe and Tom as the previous owners prior to us but heard of another owner.
