Navigation from SW FL to the east coast FL

Hi all,
I'm moving my 41 morgan OI from Port Charlotte to the east coast in a couple of weeks. I had planned on going under 7 mile bridge but heard that channel 5 bridge or snake river may be quicker. Any suggestions on shortening the course? Time is of the essence for the move.

Cheers,

Paul

Snake creek is fastest as long as the bridge timing works, only opens on the hour during the day. Have not gone through since Irma, before you had enough depth for your boat. I have not heard of any changes but hopefully someone will chime in on that.

Thanks

Under normal circumstances, take Yacht channel from Cape Sable to channel 5 bridge. At that point, you could cross under the bridge, or go east to Snake Creek to cross, or (my favorite) just stay on Florida bay until Key Biscayne. This latter route gives you a lot of flat water and bunches of good anchorage to choose from. I draw 4 1/2 ft and have not a problem over last several years. BUT, I don't know if Irma has affected the bay route. I keep checking Active Captain to see if new navigational info has been posted . So far, no one has submitted updated posts on draft and hazards. I hope to check it out myself in December.

Re: Navigation from SW FL to the east coast FL

I did this trip (Ft Myers to Jacksonville) the week after Irma. Here is the track - http://svpomaikai.com/garmin-tracking-map/

I chose to cross under the 7 mile bridge at Marathon. I wish I would have headed straight out to the Gulf Stream from there but went up Hawks Channel instead.

At that time there were no navigational markings from the exit of fort Myers until just before Miami. You may wish to call the coast guard to get an update.
