Nautor Swan 40/140

I am trying to gather all of the information that I can on the Swan 40/140.
Can it be handeled easily by two people? Any thoughts on its use for mainly cruising? What are its strengths? Weaknesses?

There's a Swan owners group. I'd contact Sparkman and Stephens, they could direct you.

Hello Budsan. Sorry for this very late answer, but I am just new in this forum...
Do you still find information about this fantastic boat ?

I have been sailing a lot on a swan 40 (G Frers) who belongs to my family.

Hello pmd, Hello Budsan,

I, too, am thinking about purchasing a Swan 40-Frers from the mid 1990s, would appreciate any comment on this boat ; handling, the deck design, etc.

Thank you,
Oguz

Yes, my family has one since 13 years... I have sailed a lot on this boat, including familly cruising or longer trip (1 atlantic crossing or several times Greece to France direct). Fantastic boat, very safe, confortable (beside when boat speed is more than 7,5kt and rough sea but I suppose like every boat) and fast, easy to handle with only 2 people on bord.

Engine not very powerfull (to save weigth...). when you go upwind with waves, better you'd better tak with sails than only engine, specially if it is windy !

Re: Nautor Swan 40/140

Thank you very much for your comments.
The companionway seems very steep to me from what İ see from photos. What is your experience with the access into the saloon?
What do you think about the aft cockpit ? Do you find it large enough for Med evenings for 3-4 people to wine and dine?
Where are you actually located? İn the US? Or in Europe?
Name of the boat?
Thank you so much,
Oguz

The companionway is not so step as it used to be in the older swans !... it's very easy and safe even with heavy sea. Really no pb. The aft cockpit is quite large. There is a table you can put. You can be easely 6 people. Located in Med, south of France. (sorry for my bad English !)

Re: Nautor Swan 40/140

What you say about the boat sounds really good.
What year is your boat from? Are you the first owner? What is your experience with the maintenance of these 15-20 year old Swans? Have you had any problems so far concerning the maintenance ?
When you crossed the Atlantic, how many were you onboard? Did you have to use the engine often? Do you have a watermaker? Generator?
Sorry for asking too many questions, but you are probably the best person to ask about this boat, İ believe.
Thank you very much. Oguz.

Only a few minutes to answer your question... more time soon...
3 people on bord for Atlantic passage. Approx. 1h30 of engine running everyday for electricity. No generator (they were generators from Swan 53 at this time I think...). We had a watermaker at this time (no more now...). About water, you have enough for about 10 -12 days with 2 ou 3 persons on board in a normal cruising if you don't waste...

No specific maintenance problems, but as the boat is very well equiped, still a lot to do !...

Re: Nautor Swan 40/140

Thank you very much, pmd. Appreciate your time answering my questions. İs your Swan 40 still equipped with the original Nautor mast/rig? What is the year of manufacture?
Regards,
Oguz
