Kind of hard to get into 2'5" of water with "proper" rudders. Actually, considering all the problems with modern rudder designs the rudders on this boat should be much safer. There is no aluminum post or frame running through them so there should be no water intrusion or delamination. Plus there's 2 of them when the boat only needs 1 to sail to windward.

That's exactly what led us to our Hallberg-Rassy 35 Rasmus. It's the largest sailboat we can really afford to own and operate indefinitely within our early-retirement budget. It is large enough for the two of us, and not too much to handle when things get rough or tight. It can be single-handed into pumpout or a fuel dock even when conditions are less than ideal. All the systems are small enough to be manageable, especially the sails. We don't need power anything to run this boat, other than maybe the windlass for the all-chain rode and 45lb Mantus.

As for being beautiful, they don't make boats like this any more. The cabins are all mahogany inside, In fact, you wouldn't know this boat was made of fiberglass from the interior. There isn't any visible plastic to be seen inside. It isn't a bad view from the dingy either, although we spend most of our time on deck or down below. The deck is getting a paint and non-skid makeover this spring before we launch. The interior needs a little work on the sole and that will be done over the colder months.

No one is ever going to accuse the Amel of being beautiful or even pretty, nope simply doesnt fit into that description however it is very practical. Beautiful and practical really cost a lot of money whether your talking about cars, boats or almost anything manufactured but if you can write the cheques it is available but very few of the boats that are being put forward meet the test, in my opinion.
