Morgan Out Island 36ft

Anyone out there have a Morgan Out Island 36ft?

I am interested to find out more information about the hull speed under sail and with motor. I have a sale pending on a Morgan 1973 Out Island 36ft and look forward to cruising Abaco Bahamas this summer in it!

Any stories/experiences on the boat is appreciated!

Thank you.

Darren

Re: Morgan Out Island 36ft

Greetings and welcome aboard the CF, Darren.

I'm not familiar with the 36, but the O/Is are generally considered "value" boats, especially suited (and designed for) to the Bahamas.

Re: Morgan Out Island 36ft

Good safe Boat made many trips to Bahamas in a 33,Abacoas,all over. Will not sail close to wind wasn't designed to,Heading into a Head Sea under power with wind on the Nose will be slow,if you raise main and sheet it in you'll get maybe a knot more and take some of the bounce out.Boat anchors well ,Sailing on a reach you,ll need 15 knots plus to get hull speed depending on head sail size, even a 120 which I,used will not get u more.Got caught in a few good blows turn tail and run with it saw 70 knots crossing the Big Bahama bank not a problem.Don't run aground tough getting off you,ll wait for the tide.Predicting spee while crusing is not possible tides currents ect all figure inGood Luck.OK that's all,I can remember.
