I would not think that is the best boat for sailing round the rock.

I'm sure someone has though. At this point in time they all probably need serious refitting. Friends just left on theirs a few weeks ago headed south. These were never supposed to be Water boats">Blue Water boats. People have crossed the Pacific in boats under 9 ft., but would you choose one? Just beacuse someone did it would not mean anyone could. The sailor measures into the equation some and being lucky is still better than being skilled.

You can sail a Morgan OI a lot without circumnavigation. Hopping around the islands seems to be what they do best and were designed for.

The OI , in its day, was designed as and used as an island hopping charter boat much like the cats that have replaced them. Wonderful for that application but not somthing that should be making the jump from Newfoundland to Ireland or sailing to Chile. But, like you say, probably some one has used it to sail around the world.

If that is the choice of boats, good luck.

About ten years ago someone took one down to Chile right down to where it's pretty stormy in those fiords down there close to Cape Horn. Saw some pictures of them in some pretty nasty weather. They are pretty tough boats.
