Mini 6.5 transpac

I'm looking to see if anyone on here is into the mini class Transat or transpac. I'm looking into building a boat and I'm from the Vancouver area. There must be someone from Seattle here that's into it? Most info I can find is in French and European.

Re: Mini 6.5 transpac

I have 2 acquaintances in Seattle, Chris Tutmark and Jonathon McKee, that I know were on at least one Mini TransAt.

Re: Mini 6.5 transpac

I know some guys here in New Orleans that were heavily involved in the class, including one guy who raced heavily for a while on a sponsored boat. They started a company to build them but couldn't keep it going and started building stuff for the DOD instead. They may still have the molds though.

Re: Mini 6.5 transpac

I looked into the boats to enter the Single Handed Transpac. Cost was just too much, something over 50 boat units to buyt and more to outfit. Virtually nothing in the used market on this side of the Atlantic.

Neat idea for off the wind racing as they'll sail way way above there water line length if you can get them up on a plane. Believe there were one or two in this years SHTP. The 2014 race was supposed to have a class of the Mini's but everyone that had expressed an interest in doing the sail dropped out. Don't remember if any of mini's actually made the sail. Might look at the SHTP website and see if any Mini's made the sail.

Building a boat that small shouldn't be that much of a project, time or money wise. Were you going for the Experimental division or the stock boat's assuming there are approved plans.

Re: Mini 6.5 transpac

Neat boats. I was fortunate to be in Horta a couple summers ago when a qualifier for the Transat was finishing up and got to walk the docks where a fleet of about 50 boats was tied up. Close-knit community but almost exclusively French.

Link below to a thread from a while back about a guy who had his self built cruisified version of a Dudley Dix design hit and run in the Caribbean. Might be worth reaching out to him. He did a really beautiful job building his boat.
