am learning from some of the leaky teaky guys that i can modify this tube to remove the bad stuff and relocate stuffing box accordingly and they are providing the info from one of the other guys who did this already.... dang good thing this is a once in 37 yrs kinda thing.. wow....that concrete doesnt come out easy--- so the others have modified their shaft tubes to fit the pieces they found work -- so i need to find the system looking most like mine and look into the bits and get em and go for this fix-- yipes-- at least i dont have to find another new part!! yet.

Sounds like a great educational adventure.
Have fun with it and be careful with your left leg.

well, if they're just removing the bad section of the tube you could eaisly just pull the shaft, cut the tube, and install the drippless packing for just a little more than the cost of the parts plus haul!! I haven't priced a spud type gland recently but it's certainly got to be more than $300?

zee, please keep me posted as to when a good time to come down will be... i would like to see the current setup/configuration and maybe see the boat in the air...
If i need to spend the nite, I will...if i need to make a couple trips, I will, (if timing permits)....
I am guessing that i will have to make my move to Florida by the end of February... so, hopefully I can come down and see 'ye', before then???
I was actually going out in Marina del Mar, on the 30th... with a guy that takes folks like me out on 'introductory' cruises for $30 for two hours...

update-- concrete translates out in wood boatage is in lieu of dead wood. ok got that . sent to k and c--- next step0 is the smarts guy is coming here weds or thu to look at problem area so we get this good and well thunk out and sorted before the money starts to be added up. reearch makes perfection happen in one fell swoop and good hype for knight and carver .... so we progress....whew... this is nerve wracking- but both yard and i wish this to eb smooth and perfect. unlike my typoing.
piece of cake, berg-- will do..

The boat was in Oriental for five weeks after we wimped out in the cold in December. I like Oriental a lot. Now we are going south in the ICW, on the Waccamaw River in South Carolina right now, waiting for weather to go outside to West Palm to collect our wind generator and then hightailing it to the Virgins to meet up with family there and in St. Barth's, This boat is never going north again if I can help it. Too d--n cold.
