Marauder 24 for beginner?

Hi guys,

I spotted a cheapo marauder 24 on gumtree a few days ago going for $1000 and from the photos and description it looked like a decent learners boat.

I am not sure if the seller or boat is dodgy as I haven't seen it yet but thought for $1K it would be hard to go wrong it it was basically solid?

Just want some cheap and cheerful fun to go out day sailing and for the occasional overnighter.

Anyone have any experience with these little boats?

Cheers

Jayson

Have sailed on one on Sydney harbour back in the 70's. Good, bulletproof little yacht, bit lacking in cabin space. They made a 27' and that WAS a good sailing boat.

Yes it looks very basic and is prob just that little bit too small as we would more than likely grow out of it fast. But again at a grand it's not as if I would be losing a lot of money on the deal.

Go for it then, you can make mistakes, bash a bit of gelcoat around, run into things and just laugh. A lot to be said for that initially, and then you will learn what you need in your next boat.
