Looking to Buy a Sailboat with a Steel Hull

Good Afternoon:
I am looking to buy a solid Cruising Sailboat with a Steel mono hull. Want to take her on one trip singlehand to Cape Horn and back to Victoria BC.

Will consider lenghts from 33 to 42. My maximum budget is 40K (Canadian). Will consider all Boats on the West and East Coasts of Nordamerica. Thanks in advance for your help finding the right Boat.

There's a 44 ft Roberts on eBay right now, 12 hours left, it didn't sell last time for the same price, needs to be completely finished, basically a hull rigging and engine. Might make them an offer when it doesn't sell again.

Thanks, but dont know right now what I should do.
I am sitting in my Hotel Room in St. Maarten. Been dealing on this Sailboat now since August. Came down her 14 days ago dit houlout and Survey and all the good stuff want to Buy the Boat but the Jerk wants nothing to do with the Notary. Boat is German Flagged, Broker has no fixed Adress, so is it to much to ask for a Contract executed at the Notary Public. Followed by a Check issued by the Notary which I want to give to this Guy when I get on Board with him (Boat is at Anchor in Simpson Bay) and make shure nothing went missing since I last been on the Boat a few days ago.

Running out of time and probably fly home to Canada day after tomorrow.
Where is your Boat located..............By for now.

It's located in Liverpool.Price is negotiable (for a limited time frame).I want to sell soon.

I have gone to see "Espina" Sabre Kai's boat. It is worth having a look at if you are in a bind. We went with something a little less Cape Horn.

Good rules for any business transaction - if you cannot trust the people you are dealing with then walk away.

Given the situation you describe I would enjoy the next day or two on the beach and then catch the plane.

Absolutely, we walked away from several because it didn't feel quite right. When we found the right one everything fell into place. There are thousands of suitable boats the world over, for sale right now, including several in the posts above.

I do like the saying "The right boat is within 15 miles of you" how true that was for us, actually 8 miles away.

It is anchored out in front of the owner's house which is near my marina. Don't know much about it, though.

There's a 35' Steel Wittholz design being sold out of Richmond, BC, by Meridian Yachts, for $17,500. It's been listed for quite a while.

Espina just went into the water today. The mast should be up by Saturday next.

I know you are looking at 33ft and over but I really want Espie to go to someone who is going to appreciate her. If you get stuck perhaps she may do the job for you.

Here are two off the top of my head that I think are appropriate and within your range. Both boats have a wind vane which is, in my book, mandatory for single handing. Autopilots are a nice extra but vanes mandatory.

I looked at this boat last year and liked it but it did not suit our immediate needs.
30' Ganely Snowbird, junk rig. $25,000 Would be real easy to single hand.

Then there is this sistership to my own. The hulls are all identical and very well built, the interiors are owner finished. I single hand mine and I don't know what I am doing.

The Brewer is quite a bit larger than the Ganley. In my estimation the Brewer would sail better and be a dryer boat. But the Ganely is less boat to keep up on a budget, is easier to single hand, and is adequate.

Besides our Murray 33 we just bought a 44' Alan Pape cutter (steel) we hope to launch this week. That cost us right around $100k US and we just dropped another good bit into fixing things that weren't quite right. Just for perspective.

If $40k is your budget look to the Ganely for surly stuff will need attention no matter what the boat.
