Looking to Build Hull Saddles for Trailer

Hi There,

I'm new to the forum but I currently have a trailer with 6 pads for my Farr 727, and I would like to convert it to have two Saddles located at fore and aft ribs on the boat.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I would go about finding the curvature needed for the saddles?

Thanks
Cody

Last time I built cradles for my beach cat I just turtles te boat in the yard, laid carpet on the hulls, plastic over the carpet and then glass/resin on the plastic. The cradles fit perfectly. May not be an option for you though.

Re: Looking to Build Hull Saddles for Trailer

Get a large sheet or two of very heavy cardboard or very thin, cheap plywood.

Cut out the hull shape as close as possible in the plywood and then hold the plywood against the hull where you want the saddle to fit.

Get a scribing tool or make one with a wood block with a marker attached to one end. Slide your tool around the hull with the marker drawing a line onto the plywood. This will transfer an exact hull curve to the plywood.

Cut the plywood on the line and refit against the hull to check the fit. Adjust as needed and then use the plywood as the pattern to make your saddles.
