Looking for long term (3 mo) rental in Caribbean

How does one find a good price ($1000/week) rental for 2-3 months in the Caribbean? Commercial rental outfits will charge you their weekly rate ($3000/week) with a "generous" 10% discount.
With all the unused expensive sailboats wasting their time in marinas, either in the water or on dry land, there's got to be someone who's willing to make some money by renting it to someone reliable.
How should I be searching for this?
Obviously there has to be trust buildup. 1. The owner has to know that they're not renting to someone who will steal or damage their boat. 2. I need some confidence that, after flying all the way to the Caribbean, I will find a boat in good condition.
Any thought?

Re: Looking for long term (3 mo) rental in Caribbean

Hello There Simon,
I own a 72ft Frers Steel Hull Ketch that's presently on the Hard in Trinidad and has been for just over a year.
Major overhaul, Hull Plates changed out, new Tanks(fuel and water) etc etc.
Basically she's a new Boat now in pristine condition....or will be shortly.
When do you think that you may want to go wandering around the Caribbean?
I had planned on getting her wet 1st Nov (end of Hurricane season).
Anyway, I might consider a Bareboat type charter to someone very qualified....
regards,
Wolfgang

Hello Wolfgang

I had Feb - April 2013 in mind. I must say that the largest sailboat I rented was a Beneteau 37. Does this rule me out from "very qualified"? Yours is twice the length.

Simon

Hello Simon,
Unfortunately, there is a huge difference between running a 72ft versus a 37ft, especially when docking in a Marina.
Sorry, Simon....
