Re: Looking for Jeanneau owners

Hello all, I am Jeanneau, Gin Fizz 38' owner for approx last 20 years. Well built boat, some designs are questionable, for me, however overall I am very happy with the boat. I have completely upgraded mech and propulsion systems, currently working on cosmetics and feel good jobs. Next project is to remove and replace the antique electric panel, and rewire. Happy sailing all...Red

We've been considering a redesign of our anchor locker; first to seperate the chain/rode for the two anchors, secondly looking at a new hatch, one that will be flush to the deck rather than the current hump which allows the anchors shaft to slide under the hatch.

Has anyone had similiar thoughts? Other ideas?
I have a 42DS and it came with a Delta Plow which did not hold well in the muddy Chesapeake Bay for us. At the suggestion of a friend who worked at Westmarine I replaced with 44 Lewmar Claw which has been doing a great job. It holds in wind and resets beautifully. I use 200ft of chain with it. This winter I'm putting a v-shaped board in the anchor compartment to let me put the backup in there, while letting the chain fall below it. I'm definitely going to do something to extend the bow-roller another foot. Bad design on Jeanneau's part, with the anchor always striking the bow when raising.

Re: Looking for Jeanneau Owners

Netguy,

we looked into dividing the chain locker, even met some folks out in CA with a Jeanneau that made such a modification, (they regretted doing so and later took the divider out). We ended up leaving the chain locker as is. We did use two anchors while we cruised for the last three years, the primary is a 45lb Danforth with a secondary 45lb bruce; on the stern we have a 35lb danforth. FOr the priamry we had 200' of chain with 250' of rode, for the secondary we had 50' chain and 250' rode. We coiled the primary ground tackle in a "U" shape in the locker, while the secondary chain and rode licved inside a combo mesh bag/5gal bucket. The bucket was inside the bag and gave the bag some "structure". This worked wonderful for us and left us with enough room in the locker that when we tied up at a marina we could store the aft chain and rode (also in a mesh bag) in the locker as well inorder to clear the decks. Hope this all makes sense. Good luck.

Ed-

Re: Looking for Jeanneau Owners

Rancher, I am not familiar with the 45.2, however Jeanneaus' in general have proven to be excellant by us and those we have met along the way. We have completed a three year circumnavigation of the Caribbean aboard our 2001 40DS and enjoyed every minute. The 40 offered more than enough living space for us and she sails excellant, especially when heading up wind. If you haven't looked at the 40, I invite you to visit our web site to look her over, svboto.blogspot.com . Good luck

Thanks for the info Ed. I'll have to look into a bag/bucket idea as well.

Re: Looking for Jeanneau Owners

Hello jeannau owners, I like to say that "Spray" DS 42 have ecountered lot of seas, without problems, its all in your head, one well equipped boat is essential!. The talks about what is an bluewater boat?, is just a theory, I ve seen lot of so called bluewater boat in serious trouble, not because of the boat itself, but lack of proper gear, anchor, sailsets, etc, Some think they buy a proper expensive boat and think it will take you under here wings and carry you around the world, its a big big mistake, the best boat you can use, is that you own right now, make it yours and it will be an blessing voyage, on mother earth.
(Sorry about my English,) I am from Norway and the north seas Atlantic is not forgiving in a standard boat whatever brand, if you think so.
Thanks.
