Sounds good I'd jump on it . Ms. westi had a Catailna 22 , another life time ago I did a bit of racing on my friends 22 . IMO they are a very good boat . What are your plans ?

Great boats, sounds well equipped. You may get more responses here: https://sbo.sailboatowners.com/recent-fx.php

Re: Looking at buying a 1976 Catalina 22

Wife and I just returned from Miami taking our ASA 101,103, 104, 114. We are retiring in 3 1/2 years and looking at either a lagoon 440 or a 450f to liveboard after retirement. So in mean time we thought a 22' would be fun to c4uise up here in northeast Montana and Northwest North Dakota we aren't racers just enjoyer.

If it is a good price, jump on it quickly. I just helped a friend sell his due to an unexpected illness. We put the word out on our Sailing Lake Havasu facebook group and we had people standing in line to buy it. Sold it in a few hours.

Only downside I see is I am a big fan of roller furling headsails on lake boats. The conditions here change so quickly and so often that the guys with hank on sails are always either under or over canvased.

Is $5000 a good price for that there's not many sailboat up in this area. I can count on the 1 hand how many for sale and 2 hands how many aren't for sale.

You may find some more input here.....

and here

I'm sure you'll get your fill at either one.

Enjoy, my Dad had a 22 that I grew up on (along with Sunfish, Hobie's, J-24's among others) on Lake Ontario. I have a Catalina 25 myself and love it.

I wouldn't call it a "good" price. We sold the 86 for $2000 and it had a brand new 4 HP Honda outboard and near new sails (maybe why we had buyers waiting in the wings). Spend some time on Sailing Texas dot com under the photos section and see what others have been listed for. Note that the final listing price is not the actual sale price.

boat sound good but are you into racing, looks like this one was set for racing...agree price sounds a little high for a 76, although you are getting a lot of extras, I had one that I sailed on a lake, good boat, easy to sail lots of fun, I had hull 10000.

LOL! I bought hull nr 61 direct from the factory in North Hollywood! Mr Butler has done pretty well in the intervening years, sold a few more boats!

For the OP: while the price that you quote is pretty high for an old Cat 22, the various improvements are useful, address some weak poiints in the design, and will sure add to performance... especilly the keel mods. The stock keels are pretty crude, the hinge pin arrangement even more so, and the banging around pretty annoying if sleeping aboard in a rough anchorage. If the sails (or at least one set of them) are fairly new, and if it has a good trailer (I don't think you mentioned that factor), and (most important) if the improvements are things that will add to your enjoyment of the boat, well, then I reckon it is good value. When you go to sell her in a few years it is unlikely that you will recoup much of the premium that you have paid, so if that is important to you, keep it in mind.

I owned mine for 7 years in all, raced her extensively in SF Bay, did some ocean sailing off the California coast, cruises to Santa Cruz island and from Port Angeles to Vancouver and back, mostly with ex-wife and two kids aboard. We had a lot of fun with her and learned so much that has been applicable to my long term cruising life later on.

You could do worse...

Re: Looking at buying a 1976 Catalina 22

We sold ours for 2500. Same price we paid. The boat was in fair condition and would have taken quite a bit more money to get her up to snuff. If the boat is in really good condition the higher initial price might be worth your time, especially with the extras. I loved our Catalina 22. Fun boat. Even if you think you paid too much you won't regret owning her.
